Your Music Career

"In today's music business, knowledge is definitely power. What you don't know about the recording industry can completely kill your future in music. If you want to succeed as an artist, there are certain rules that you must follow."
--Don Reed, Producer/Recording Artist, Affinity Music

Your music career is in your hands; success or failure is up to you. Before beginning your career in music, take time to learn and understand everything you possibly can about the recording industry and what it expects from you as an aspiring artist. Don't become one of the many talented musicians who end up spending thousands of dollars and valuable time only to see their music career end up on a dead-end road.

Your musical dreams can become a reality - BUT - only if you follow the Proper Procedures and Present Yourself the right way. Any attempt to shortcut or circumvent these important aspects will do nothing but waste your time and lead to failure.

In order for you to have a successful music career, carefully consider the following requirements:
  • Major labels will not accept unsolicited material;
  • You will need representation by a well-known production company or music attorney;
  • You will need to prepare and submit a demo of superior quality; comparable to what you would hear on the radio. Anything less won't do.

Remember: You are competing with the big boys out there in musicland. As an unsigned, unknown, attempting to approach recording industry executives on your own can be disastrous, leading to disillusionment and discouragement. Be sure to find a credible company to represent you. Your chances of being signed by a label will be so much greater if you do.
